I love giving showers for weddings and babies! There’s no limit to what you can do…and of course I am always looking for something a little different.
When planning for a fall wedding shower for a sweet couple ( my daughter Lauren’s new sister-in-law) I was trying to think of something for her wedding favors. I racked my brain and then my sister reminded me of the large chocolate covered apples I used to make. Yes! I could do a version of those for the shower!
A little trip to Hobby Lobby helped me gather up the supplies…when I made the large chocolate covered apples I always used wooden dowels and glued wooden balls on the top, sticking these into the apple’s core and then wrapping up with cellophane and lots of ribbons. I had those in my buggy until I saw these… they are cake pop sticks covered in pearls. Yep.. I think I can make those work if I can find small apples!
I found the aisle for the bagged candy melts and settled on ivory and then went in search of something gold to add to them. They had edible gold glitter, liquid gold, gold flakes…but I ended up with a small tub of liquid gold. Fingers crossed. I grabbed some ribbon and cello favor bags and then a trip to the grocery store to find small apples and I was ready.
So here’s a little step by step guide to make these.
Start with melting your candy melts…I microwave a minute at a time, stirring in between.
Hold your apples by the stem and dip them in your small bowl of melted chocoate. Let the excess drip off and then set them on wax paper.
Once the chocolate is dry, open up the liquid gold container and dip the apples down into the jar, tilting the apple to get as much or as little of the gold on the apple as you like. I wanted it to mostly cover the chocolate so I dipped it as far as it would go without overspilling.
Place the apples on a wire rack. The instructions on the gold said it would take up to 3 hours to dry…it was more like 24 hours+ and they were still a little tackly.
Pull the stems from your apples. Cram those cake pops down into the center of your apple where the stems were. Put your apple into the cello bag and tie up with ribbons. And there you go!
You could do this with any color chocolate, or even just the gold alone. Or the chocolate without the gold..ha! Options. You have options. Match the colors of your party or wedding or event. Get creative!
