Mom’s Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

There are childhood foods that become a part of our DNA. You probably have your favorites too. Maybe you are lucky enough to have those recipes in your recipe box. Maybe you are lucky enough to even have them in your mother or grandmother’s own handwriting.

One of those recipes for me are these peanut butter cookies. My mother made them for me as a child. And when I went to college, I would frequently receive a care package with these cookies carefully wrapped in paper towels and sent with a card which usually included a $5 bill with instructions to buy myself a hamburger. As soon as I would open the box the smell of home would waft out into the small dorm room. I didn’t get home very often when I was in college, especially my freshman year, and these little care packages were good for my soul. (and my hungry college student belly!)

My girls now call these Grandma’s peanut butter cookies because they also were fortunate to have her pack them up for us for our road trips home from her house. And when she came to stay with us, she often made them for the girls.

The recipe is so easy with just a few simple ingredients. You might have this recipe in your family box already. If so, take out the recipe card and make a batch soon. If not, add these to your recipe box. Anna Lee would be tickled to think someone was enjoying her cookies.

Ingredients

1 box yellow cake mix

1 cup chunky peanut butter

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs

2 tablespoons of water

Directions

Mix all together and roll out in balls. Press with a fork in a cross hatch pattern. (dipping your fork in water helps with this step).

Bake at 350 degrees on an ungreased baking sheet until golden brown, about 13 minutes.

Enjoy!
